If you have a television, you may be familiar with TLC's old show Miami Ink which followed a group of tattoo artists including Kat Von D and Ami James. It probably does not come as a surprise then that Miami, Florida is the most tattooed city in America with roughly 24 tattoo shops per 100,000 people.

Most people think that tattoos in Miami are over priced. To avoid shelling out an arm and a leg for a tattoo, make sure you do some price hunting. Tattoos from trendier places, like Miami Ink, will be much more.

Receiving a tattoo in the state of Florida requires written, notarized consent of a minor's parent or legal guardian in order to tattoo a person under the age of 18. It is illegal to tattoo a person under the age of 16 unless the tattooing is to be performed for medical or dental purposes by a person licensed to practice medicine or dentistry.

The state of Florida requires any person who applies tattoos or permanent make up be certified as, or work under the general supervision of, a Medical Doctor, Doctor of Medical Dentistry, Doctor of Dental Surgery, or a Doctor of Osteopathy.

Florida prohibits the piercing of a minor without the written, notarized consent of the parent or legal guardian.  Consent may also be a parent or legal guardian accompanying the minor to receive the piercing. Almost every tattoo parlour in Miami also performs body piercings.
