Miami, located in Southern Florida, is the newest major city in the United States.
Established in 1891, Miami, Florida is nearly 120 years old, but still is one of the largest metropolises in America.
Richard Fitzpatrick was the first soldier to create a settlement along the northern bank of the Miami River. Fitzpatrick’s establishment consisted of a plantation on which he produced bananas, maize, and other tropical fruits.
A few years after the establishment of the plantation, the U.S. Army turned the plantation into a military base titled Fort Dallas. The base was used during the Second Seminole War, which was one of the most horrendous Indian wars in history causing the Indian population in Miami to become nonexistent.
